Annual Request Chart to be Announced on 9th January
The 37th Radio Brockley annual request chart will be announced on Sunday 9th January between 4-7pm on a special 3-hour programme.
The annual chart, which will be hosted by Alan Joyce for the 30th year in a row, counts down the songs and artists which patients at the RNOH have asked to hear the most over the last 12 months.
Last year it was Queen who topped our annual poll for the most popular artist for the first time in 28 years. It’s now just over 30 years since the sad passing of lead singer Freddie Mercury, but the group have never missed our annual Top 20 in that time, and are among the favourites to top the chart again for 2021.
Last year’s runner-up was Elvis Presley, who has been inside our annual Top 5 for the last five years, and topped our poll in 2018 and 2019.
Frank Sinatra finished third last year – and has topped our chart on four occasions previously. He’s also back in the mainstream UK Top 40 this week!
Other contenders for the top crown include Ed Sheeran and Adele, who have both topped our poll previously on two occasions each; Elton John who has never finished higher than fifth (three times!), but has enjoyed three UK number one singles this year; and Abba who have never topped our annual chart but made a huge comeback this year with a new album!
We will also reveal the most requested song, which in recent years has been a surprise as old classics have finally topped the charts. Last year it was “Islands In The Stream” by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, whilst the previous year saw “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley topping the pile. Could it be another old classic this year? Could “My Way” by Frank Sinatra finally top our chart at the 37th attempt, having peaked at No.2 on three occasions including last year? Could it be the year that “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond reaches the top? Or maybe newer tunes by Adele or Ed Sheeran?
