Ed and Elvis Lead in Mid-Year Request Chart
Request chart legends Elvis Presley and Ed Sheeran are leading the way to become the most requested artist of 2023 at the mid-year stage. Both artists have an extraordinary record on the annual request chart, with Elvis being a three-time chart topper (in 2005, 2018 and 2019), as well as spending the last seven years in our annual Top five.
The chart is based on the songs and artists requested by patients and staff of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
Meanwhile Ed Sheeran has topped our annual chart twice before, and has spent the last two years as our runner-up.
Very close behind in the chasing pack are Queen – our annual chart topper for the last three years, and looking to make it a record-breaking 4th year in a row.
Also in the mid-year Top 10 – The Beatles, Abba, Fleetwood Mac and Elton John are also in with a shout at topping our end-of-year chart. None of them have ever topped our artist chart before.
Remmy Williams (who is the sister of one of the RNOH receptionists) is looking to make our annual Top 40 for a third consecutive year. Meanwhile we could see big gains for artists like George Michael, Taylor Swift, UB40 and Dusty Springfield.
In the battle for the most requested song of the year, “My Sweet Lord” by George Harrison could get a very high placing, along with “Happy” by Pharrell Williams and “The Best” by Tina Turner. Also doing well is “My Way” by Frank Sinatra – which has never made it to our annual No.1 but has finished second on four occasions!
We are also on target to potentially hit our highest number of requests in a year since 2018. The annual request chart is announced every year around New Year, and Radio Brockley has produced a request chart every year since 1985.
