My Way Confirmed as All-Time Most Requested Song
“My Way” by Frank Sinatra has been announced as our most requested song of all time by patients of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. As the request chart celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, Radio Brockley’s longest-serving volunteer David Rauch, alongside Macie Lewis, counted down the most requested songs of the last 40 years.
“My Way” has made our request chart on 31 occasions in the last 40 years – more than any other song. It’s never topped our annual chart incredibly, however it has been our runner-up on four occasions.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen finished in second place, having topped our annual chart in 1992. It’s rarely missed our annual chart ever since. It’s also one of two tracks by Queen in our all-time Top 20, with “I Want To Break Free” ranking 16th. A third track “Don’t Stop Me Now” was also not far outside the Top 40 (at number 48).
“Lady In Red” by Chris De Burgh finished in third place, having topped our annual chart on three occasions (in 1986, 1997 and 2000). It would have topped our all-time chart ten years ago, but its popularity has faded in recent years.
“Happy” by Pharrell Williams is the most popular track to be released in the last 20 years.
Earlier in the year, Elvis Presley was confirmed as the all-time most requested artist on Radio Brockley. However, he did not have any songs in our all-time Top 40.
