60 Years of Memories – Radio Brockley’s Diamond Party

Radio Brockley members past and present gathered on Saturday 19 September to celebrate the station’s diamond anniversary. The hospital radio for the RNOH celebrates its 60th anniversary on the 2nd October, making it London’s longest-running hospital radio, and also the longest-running independent radio station in London.

Four of the six founder members joined in the celebrations, including two of the station’s founder trustees – Barry Cobden and Ian Downs (pictured cutting the cake). They were joined by fellow founder members David Wilkins and Malcolm Mallett.

The evening was filled with special memories as members from across the station’s 60 years reunited to share why Radio Brockley retains a special place in their hearts. Some members shared their stories of how they met their partners at the radio station, while others went on to have a successful career in broadcasting.

The 60th anniversary party was just the start of the big celebrations, as Radio Brockley will have 3 days of special live programmes from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th October. Once again, members from across the last 6 decades will be returning to present special one-off shows, and in some cases, reuniting for shows they previously co-presented together.
